FAQs

What is thecommon?

A curated social connection service for Londoners. We use a blend of tech and human insight to carefully match you into small group chats for 3-week cycles. These are lightly-led in a way that is designed to lead to real-life and lasting friendships.

How does the matching work?

We review the information you provide us in your form submission. We then use AI to place you with a pool of potential matches. It is here that a real person will take lead, and assess who you may be best suited to connect with. This process is intentionally designed to be human-led with tech support for the best result.

Why 3-week cycles?

We are not a social media service. Instead, thecommon provides the conditions for you to gain real-life connections and experiences with people who you genuinely get along with. This is why our group chats will be active for just 21 days. At the end of this period, you and your new mates should have your private chats and will have met up at least once in real life. If this doesn’t happen or you just want to go again, after 3 weeks you can "remix" into a new group.

What is thecommonPact?

A shared commitment to being proactive and respectful. Every member agrees to show up with a "giving" attitude to ensure the best outcome for the whole group.

How much does it cost?

Our service is subscription based, at £10 per month.

Which cities do you operate?

Right now, only London. We are a new service with plans to expand to new cities later in 2026.

What if I don’t like my group?

Every group is lightly moderated to ensure momentum and respect. If you feel the chemistry isn't right, we encourage you to stick it out for the 21 days—sometimes the best connections happen in week three.

If it still hasn't clicked by the end of the cycle, simply Remix. You’ll be placed into a fresh group with different people for the next round.

How do you use my data?

Great and important question. You can review our full privacy policy here.

How do I cancel or get a refund?

Whether you have made a bunch of new best mates and no longer need us, or it’s just not the right time you can cancel your ongoing subscription by emailing us at hello@thecommon.me. Please note that this will cancel your next rolling payment and we do not issue refunds for payments already processed.

Will I definitely make friends?

We cannot guarantee that you will make friends. However, what we can provide are the conditions where this is possible. Through our carefully chosen, small group chats we are confident that you will be able to meet some really cool people who you get along with great!

No instant access, after paying?

We know today’s world moves fast, but thecommon takes a wee minute. We don’t leave your connections to a bot; our team hand-chooses your group to make sure the fit is right. So, don’t worry and hang tight—your subscription is being put to good use while we’re finding your best people.
